Skin Care, Lip Love, and Tilvee

One of the most idiot-proof ways to get your body working better is to swap out all your chemical-laden shampoos, soaps, deodorants, and generally everything else that you’d keep in the bathroom.

I find it extremely ironic that most skin products are attempting to detoxify and cleanse and refresh your skin, given the amount of gnarly compounds that you’ll find on the ingredient list of almost every skin care product on the market.

It’s simple really……If you overload your liver, you’ll be pushing everything out through your skin as a ‘last ditch effort’  for your body to detoxify itself.  Problem is….Liver’s these days are already taxed to the limit…….There’s no need to add any more fuel to the fire!

Skin Care Checklist;

1.  If you can’t pronounce an ingredient, your liver won’t like it. Can you pronounce “c-o-c-o-nut oil”?…..How bout byzo-dihydro-tetrachlorate?  Didn’t think so…….Skip the chemicals……See rule 3

2.  No Soy…….Estrogens in soy disrupt the bodies natural hormonal rhythms.  Soy is used in a lot of skin care products as a cheap filler, and you get a dose of estrogen every time you rub it on your skin.

3.  If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin! Your skin is like a sponge, and it’ll suck in anything that comes into contact.  Chemicals that come in through the skin go right into the bloodstream and have to  be processed by the liver just like if you ate ‘em.

4.  No ‘hippy scents’. Maybe the most important for me.

So here I am at the Grocery store, and not being one to stray away from free samples, I picked up a few goodies that Tilvee Organics was showcasing.  Creating all their products out of Morrison, CO, they’re committed to using ingredients that are sustainable, Organic and Fair Trade.

After looking at the ingredients of the Tilvee lip balm……much to my shock…..I discovered it was made of……*gasp*………REAL STUFF!

Coconut oil, Cacao Butter, Shea Butter, Avocado oil, Beeswax……..

I’m a sucker for lip balm, I use a lot of it.  If you check the ingredients of almost any stick, you’ll typically find cheap oils and chemicals in the product list.  Here’s a good breakdown from Josh Rubin at East West Healing and Performance;

However! I don’t recommend the Alba product he mentions because it doesn’t quite fit into my above  list (soy being the offending ingredient in this case)

Go for one of these instead……..

Shameless promotion for an amazing product.  I’ve tried the other goodies you see in the photo above, and it’s all of the highest quality. Highly recommended.

Keep it up Kristie!
