I like to travel a lot, and this usually means going way outside of my comfort zone (my comfort zone being Boulder, CO)
It’s easy to stay healthy when you’ve got your “groove” going, and traveling can really throw a wrench in the gears of any health program.
I don’t like to substitute low quality foods just because I’m in a new city…..So I don’t! Working high quality food into a vacation is not very hard, even if they don’t speak english where you’re going.
Staying healthy while travelling is all about PLANNING. Remember the 6P’s…..Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance. I’m not saying you’ve got to have every minute detailed, ’cause that can really take the fun out of being in a new place. As long as you’ve got a place to go and a general plan, you’ll be much better prepared to keep yourself in top form during your trip.
What do I do when i travel?
Once I’ve decided where I’m going and where I’m staying, I go through these steps:
–Who am I travelling with? Will they be interested in going out of the way for good food? Let your fellow travelers know your plans to save any last minute arguments. You don’t want to be arguing when you’ve got low blood sugar.
–Ask friends you know from that city if they know any good spots for organic foods, throw out some email bait and see if you catch anything.
–You don’t even want to know whats in that airplane food, let alone put it in your mouth…..So take a days worth of food. For me this means some chicken salad (remember, smaller than 3 oz. for security!), an easily packable fruit, and some organic sprouted seeds. The seeds will be comfortable in your bag for a long time, they are a traveller”s best friend. Who likes two day old salisbury steak anyway?

!!!!!!! GROSS !!!!!!!!!
–Google MAPS! Look up some restaurants, get directions, and go for it!

How did people travel without google maps? I don't know
–Ask locals! If you find yourself near a health food store, then go in and ask the locals where the goods are!
30 minutes of planning can really go a long way……..it’ll make your trip flow a lot better, and it’ll keep your vitality high for all the adventures you’ll run into.
